You need one or more Web-based tools

Step 3 is to select the tool you want to use to tell your story.

There are many tools that can be used to tell a Web 2.0 story. For this workshop, you will select from one of three types of tools listed below. For participants who want to explore further on their own, links are provided to lists of additional tools.

Remember, Web 2.0 sites come and go. When one tool you like disappears, another will take its place.

Many of these sites work with a Flickr account (noted when required). A basic Flickr account is free. If you don't have one and decide to try a tool that requires use of Flickr, click here to set up an account.

Slideshows

These popular tools enable users to upload photos to a Website, arrange the order of the photos, add short text (usually just a caption), and select a slideshow style. You can add title and credit slides by creating them in PowerPoint, saving each individual slide in jpeg format, and uploading these files as if they were photos.

1. Slide.com (included in handout)

2. Slideflickr- This site requires a Flickr account. Create a Set in Flickr that includes the images you want, in the order you want. Come to Slideflickr and create your slide show in 3 clicks.

Posters

Poster tools allow you to import graphics and arrange them on a page. Some tools allow you to add text and to hyperlink graphics to other Websites.

1. Glogster EDU (included in handout)

2. Tabblo- Similar to Glogster, but you cannot hyperlink images.

Presentation Tools

1. Google Presentations: Upload an existing 2003 PowerPoint or earlier file (up to 10 MB) or create one online. Limited capabilities, but you can insert video and images. Also has a Draw tool.

2. SlideShare: Create a story using PowerPoint and upload it to the Web. It is also possible to upload and synchronize MP3 files for audio. To add audio, you might want to try using Drop.io (set up an account, call the phone number provided and record your narration).

Experienced Web 2.0 storytellers may want to explore additional tools. Start with the following links:
